FOUNDER AND ARTISTIC DIRECTOR
Shelly Hudson is a seasoned business, arts professional and Founder/Executive/Artistic Director of The Performer's Playground. Starting as the drama director of the Dramatic Society at Newport High School, Shelly founded the Performer’s Playground in 2004 and acted as TPP Executive/Artistic Director until 2012, producing over 150 fully staged, award-winning productions with over 600 youth and adults. Recognized at the local and state level for her commitment to the business and arts community, Shelly developed The Performer’s Playground to become the premiere Sullivan County youth arts organization and a sought-after partner for other organizations in Sullivan County. In 2012, Shelly was offered a position as the Executive Director of Red River Theatres, an indie art house cinema, and events venue located in Concord, NH. She returned to TPP as a guest director in honor of our special 15 anniversary season and directed Romeo and Juliet to much acclaim. In 2016 Hudson was recognized by the New Hampshire Theatre Awards for her work at Performer's Playground and commitment to youth theatre. Most recently, Hudson has worked as a consultant for TPP and guest director of the sold-out run of The Diary Of Anne Frank in November 2016.
Sean Roberts, a long-time member of TPP, became the Artistic Director of The Performer’s Playground in the summer 2012 until June of 2016. With his dedication and energy, The Performer’s Playground continued to thrive and expand offerings to include various theatre workshops, such as improv and stage combat. He also serves as the Newport High School Dramatic Society advisor and was able to reignite a partnership between the Newport schools and The Performer's Playground.
